Craig M. Spanjers is a partner at Floyd, Sammons & Spanjers, P.A. in Winter Haven, Florida, where he focuses on trial work and estate planning. He is admitted to practice in Florida and holds Florida Bar Number 221521. Over the course of his career, he has handled complex civil matters from early case strategy through trial and appeal, while also guiding clients through planning decisions that call for clear answers and careful drafting.
Craig was born in Dickinson, North Dakota in 1951 to Dr. and Mrs. Arnold J. Spanjers and moved to Florida as a child. He graduated second in his class from Winter Haven High School in 1969, then attended Georgia Tech where he combined academics with hands-on professional experience as a co-op student in Delta Air Lines’ engineering department. He earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial and systems engineering, graduating with high honors in 1974. Craig went on to earn his J.D. from the University of Florida in 1976, graduating with honors.
Craig was admitted to The Florida Bar in 1976. He was later admitted to the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida, the United States Supreme Court, and the United States Court of Appeals, including the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits. His practice began with The Stanley Wines Law Firm, where he worked from graduation through 2003 and served as lead counsel in numerous civil trials, including jury and non-jury proceedings. His trial work included personal injury and wrongful death, construction lien matters, contract disputes, and insurance coverage issues, along with significant experience in Florida appellate courts.
In addition to trial and appeal work, Craig has represented professionals in licensing matters, malpractice defense, hospital privilege issues, and employment contract disputes. Coming from a family of physicians, Craig has long-standing ties to the medical community and a strong working understanding of the practical issues medical professionals face. He received an AV Rating from Martindale-Hubbell, reflecting peer recognition for professional ability and ethics.
In 2003, Craig transitioned to an of counsel role with The Stanley Wines Law Firm and joined the Nolen/Spanjers Commercial Real Estate Team alongside Mike Nolen, Sr. and his wife, Gloria. During a period of substantial growth in Central Florida real estate, Craig developed deep experience with commercial transactions, contract negotiation, and the sale and purchase of large development and vacant land tracts. In 2005, the Nolen/Spanjers Team was recognized as the top commercial real estate group in Coldwell Banker Commercial’s Southern Region, giving Craig valuable perspective on how deals are structured and where disputes often begin.
Craig joined Floyd, Sammons & Spanjers, P.A. in March 2007 and serves as the firm’s primary litigation attorney. In his current role, he helps clients resolve disputes efficiently when possible and prepares cases thoroughly when court involvement is necessary. He also continues to build his work in estate planning and related matters, with a focus on practical planning that fits each client’s goals and family dynamics.
Craig and his wife, Gloria, have been married for more than 33 years and have two children, Courtney and Joey, both Georgia Tech graduates in Business Management. They are active members of the Corpus Christi Catholic Community in Celebration, Florida, and Craig is also involved in the Cursillo Movement of the Catholic Diocese of Orlando.
Throughout his career, Craig has remained committed to community service. His involvement has included service on the City of Winter Haven Planning Board, leadership roles with the Polk Museum of Art, Theatre Winter Haven, and the Women’s Resource Center, and work with community initiatives through the Winter Haven Area Chamber of Commerce. He has also participated in numerous local activities, including coaching youth soccer and baseball, organizing road races, and supporting crime prevention efforts.
Outside the office, Craig enjoys staying active. He is an avid scuba diver, runner, and cyclist, and he and Gloria have also taken up kayaking.
